Giannis Wired

I have 2000 server and 2000 workstation.All users have
roaming profile on this server, and personal folder at
outlook pst saved at c:\documents and
settings\username\application\microsoft\outlook\usrname.pst
and profiles in a directory on server \profiles.
In one certain user in this folder c:\documents and
settings\username\application\microsoft\outlook\usrname.pst
for some reason many temp pst files are create , prf.tmp
and have the same size with the original pst files.

Could you tell me what possible create these tmp files or
a way to find out how they are creating

thank you

Well that is not the place to keep your pst-files. This way they are being
copied back and forward during logon and logoff. Also when Outlook is not
(can not) close(d) properly there is still a lock on the pst-file preventing
it from being copied properly and become easily corrupted.

Don't store pst-files that connect to Outlook on networkshares either. Leave
the pst-file at the local machine and make a back-up to the network or a
local back-up if needed. If you have a lot of pst-files on the network you
might want to consider extending your Exchange server farm. This way you can
control the back-ups more easily and Exchange also stores its data a lot
more optimized than a pst-file does.
