tmp files

In my Local Settings\Temp folder are a large of number files
like ~DFxxxx. tmp where xxxx is an alpha numeric. Many are
32 kb in size.

I have seen it suggested that these are generated by
Microsoft Anti Spyware / Windows Defender. As Temporary
files it seems that all except those for today can be safely
deleted. However, neither Disk CleanUp or cCleaner seem
to delete them.

How do others systematically remove them? I am looking for
something better than manually deleting them in Windows
Explorer

You are correct about Disk Cleanup; it also seems true for Live OneCare
cleanup. However, Ccleaner does delete the tmp files with the obvious
exception of the files currently in use. Use the Ccleaner Cleaner (broom)
and under Cleaner Settings for Windows check the box System and check the box
Temporary Files. Also, click Options->Advanced and uncheck the box Only
delete files in Windows temp older than 48 hours. Give it a try - it worked
for me!
