Cannot Delete .tmp Files

Hi:

I cannot delete two .tmp files from my computer. Today's .tmp files are JETF1D2.tmp and JETF230.tmp and apparently they change names each day, but seem to always be JETFxxx.tmp. The size of the .tmp files are 0 KB.

The string is C:\WINDOWS\Temp\JETF1D2.tmp etc.

There are always two of these type files in the Windows\Temp folder each day that I cannot delete. If they are .tmp files why can I not delete them?

Thanks

They are probably being used by Windows and are locked. Do the same one's show up after a reboot or do you get two new one's?

Hi:

The two files this morning are JETF126.tmp and JETEF70.tmp respectively. I am getting these files on a Sony desktop with MCE2005 with all updates. I have a Toshiba laptop with XP Home Edition with basically the same software, except for the Operating System and no .tmp files ever appear.

Thanks

These files are connected to your printing capabilities. Since the
printer service is in use (whether you are physically printing or not),
you'll have the files. You can safely ignore them. You can go through a
lot of machinations to remove them but they will always be recreated on
reboot and there is no reason to remove them.

Hi John:

I have Process Explorer version 10.11 installed, but I don't have a clue as how to use it in finding what process has these files open. Could you possibly elaborate further or assist me in this matter?

Thanks
You can use Sysinternals Handle or Process Explorer to find out what
process has the file open. It could be helpful to your troubleshooting
efforts.

In Process Explorer click on Search Menu | Find and enter the handle
(file name) that you want to find or investigate. Did you read Malke's
post, she believes the file to be related to your print system...

Hi John:

I couldn't see the forest for the trees, as I had looked previously for a Search Menu. I found it this time and the files pertain to Vaio Entertainment Data Base. I have a Sony desktop with Windows MCE2005 so that explains everything.

Thanks

Thanks for letting us know. I had an inkling that the files were from
the Jet DataBase engine.
