TMP files

One particular Excel workbook that I'm running is automatically and
regularly saving a TMP file in the same directory as the Excel file
itself, with an identical name as the workbook. These files then
refuse to be deleted until the next reboot, saying they are in use by
another program.

Can anyone explain why this might be happening? Microsoft online help
doesn't seem to be able to offer an explanation. Any suggestions most
gratefully received.

with best wishes,

I've never seen this. But there have been a few posts describing your
situation. (But I don't recall seeing a real answer.)

If you reboot and delete these files, when do they get created?
Do you have any macros running?
Does it happen to all files in all folders?
Do you have any weird(?) antivirus (or other utility) running?

If you open excel in safe mode:
Windows start button|Run|excel /safe
does it still occur?

What version of excel/windows are you running?

(No matter what you answer, I don't have a better suggestion. But maybe someone
will see the added details and can jump in.)
