timezones corrupted

System has recently lost its timezone settings. I'm supposed to be EST
(Canada & USA), but Date and Time applet has switched to (GMT -8:00)
Tijuana, Baja California. And I no longer have the option to switch back. My
choices are limited to only 10 zones ranging from (GMT -08:00) Tijuana,
Baja California to (GMT +04:00) Baku. Unfortunately, (GMT -05:00) is
missing. Also, the world map which is normally seen when accessing the Time
Zone tab is missing as well. Restoring system to earlier saved backups has
not helped. Resetting clock to current local time with the wrong time zone
also is a problem since scheduled appointments are all wrong.

Would appreciate any help which can avert either trashing this install or
moving to Tijuana.

Did you checked the Regional and Language options in the control panel and
see if the settings are okay and if not you can make your changes from there.
HTH.
Let us know.

Thanx Wes, but right after sending that message I did do exactly as
suggested at your link, except I used the registry from a Windows 2000
installation. BTW and FWIW - I also found a similar if not identical
registry key at:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones]
This key was totally missing from my Windows XP ??? and the one at:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones]
had only a handful of time zones. I imported both into Windows XP and
problem is fixed. The cause of this corruption will probably remain a
mystery.

Thanx again,

Glad you got it solved.

This key...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones
....is for Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98
Second Edition, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition.

This key...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones
...is for Windows XP.

I do not even have this key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones

Maybe you have that key because you upgraded from a previous version of
Windows. I did not, mine was a clean install of XP on my machine.
