(2) - Disable the NTFS Last Access Time Stamp (Windows NT/2000/XP) Popular

a - Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, named
"NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate" and set it to "1" to prevent the LastAccess
time stamp from being updated.

b - Registry Settings
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem]
Value Name: NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disable, 1 = enable)

Larry,

I think you are paranoid with this computer speed thing from your posts
after the past few days

With the amout of cycles a second a Pentium IV does with what you want to
disable won't make the slightest difference to your machine

Seems like you have an old Pentium IV 3 Gb Prescott 630 processor running
fairly slow PC 3200 memory. Then you are using SATA I drives not SATA II,
but maybe that's all the motherboard can take. Then there is changing your
graphics card to PCI Express 16 speed from a slow AGP socket, but again I am
not sure your motherboard will support it.

You said yourself a few days ago that a novice is someone who knows more
than you do when you asked about cleaning your registry aften removing
pinball. So, to list CurrentControlSet registry keys isn't what you should
really be tampering with, in my opinion

Things you should be looking into is what is running on startup & is the
virus software making a lot of difference with the speed etc? Have you
deleted your temp files, cleared the cache & so on & so on..? This will give
you a speed increase

What will all these tweaks achieve? A machine that you have so trim that you
will be scared of using or installing new software because you may lose a
millisecond in speed.

Sorry for this, but its my honest opion
