Time and date

Can anyone please explain in simple terms why my Time and date settings
sometimes revert to Aug 2003, which I assume was original setup day.
Sometimes it is only the time - other times both change. I do occassionally
have problems closing down but these do not necessarily coincide with the
time/date problem. NB Not terribly computer literate, so simple remedy would
help. Tks.

How old is your system? Sounds like the battery on the motherboard is
dying/dead. Look in your manual and it should show you where it is located
and how to change it. It's fairly simple to do. Most MB's use the same coin
cell that a car remote uses, usually a CR2032. One can be picked up at Wal-
or K-Mart, or Radio Shack.

Check if Aug 2003 is also your system manufacturing date. It normally
indicates that the system clock hardware is bad or the battery on th
emotherboard is not getting charged. If your system is that old, just try
getting the battery on the motherboard replaced as a first step. Do a full
scan of your system for any viruses, your can use the following link to do a
