Tilde over "n"?

Your help on this if for a keyboard, but it does not work for a laptop. How
does it work when using Word on a laptop?
 
The laptop might even have a built-in hardware "international
keyboard" -- do any of the keycaps have accented letters shown in a
different color? If they do, then there's a key somewhere to toggle
that other set of characters.
