Thumbs.db Files

I found some Thumbs.db files in the folder of some of my pictures and some of
my music.

Do you guys know what these Thumbs.db are for?

Is it safe to delete these Thumbs.db files? Will my computer not work
properly if I delete them?

Because when I tried deleting them I got the following message: The file
'Thumbs' is a system file. If you remove it, your computer or one of your
programs may no longer work correctly. Are you sure you want to move it to
the Recyle Bin?

Thanks

Rule - do no mess with system files. Do the following: Control panel>Folder
options>View tab>Check mark "Do not show hidden files..." and "Hide
protected operating system files".

Windows will work fine. However, thumbs.db is a file which is required for
thumbnail view of folders and files in explorer and elsewhere.

When in doubt, don't.

It's a cache of thumbnail icons for that folder. It is safe to delete them. They will be recreated
the next time you view the folder in thumbnail mode.

Controlled by:

Folder Options -> 'View' tab -> Advanced Settings -> 'Do not cache thumbnails'

Any chance you have ThumbsPlus installed on your PC?

Any chance that you have a freakin' clue about the topic under
discussion?

It's a cache of the thumbnail pictures for images in that folder. If you
change the view options to view thumbnails that's where they are drawn from.
If there are no image files in that folder any more, then delete it. If you
delete it and there are images, that file will be recreated the next time
you display thumbnails. Why do you want to delete them? As Keith said you
can disable the creation of thumbnails.
