Thumbnail view wmf

I get only the icon in explorer folder for files with extension wmf. I get
thumbnails for tiff and jpeg but not for wmf. What can I do to get all the
clip-art files that have wmf extension to show as thumbnail instead of paint
icons?

Your answer seems to tell me how to not view thumbnails and I want to view
thumbnails. I have used folder options --view and I have unchecked view
icons only and explorer does show thumbnails for jpeg, tiff, but it does not
show thumbnails for wmf. I want to see thumbnails of wmf files, as well as
jpeg, tiff etc. Previous operating systems were able to do this.

I have the same problem. It's so silly because wmf is a microsoft clipart
format so why did they disable the thumbnails for those??

If I remember right WMF files are vector based, so there really is no
image from which to make a thumbnail from. A vector based image is
nothing more than a mathematical set of instructions to remake some
image, similar to MIDI files are on the audio side don't contain any
waveforms.

You can of course convert these EMF (Enhanced Meta File) files to a
raster based graphic file that should generate a thumbnail.

Try this one: http://www.reasoft.com/rea-emf-change-jpg.shtml

Well, XP created thumbnail view and yes there are independent free
downloadable programs like XnView I think which will create thumbnails. I
can use it to drag and drop into word but it will not drag and drop into
Excell as the XP explorer would when you used insert from file. I think this
problem is a little like a car company can't quite fix their tire jack
problem so they don't sell the car with a tire jack and expect you to go to a
car shop and find the jack off the shelf even though the car company
invented the car jack in the first place. At least they could tell you which
extensions are not supported and some options on what you could do.

I have the same problem as JayC. In XP, I saw thumbnails of metafiles. With
Vista Premium, I see only the crayon icons of vector images. I don't think we
should have to download any additional program to see thumbnails, since the
process worked in XP. Is Microsoft listening to these concerns, or is there a
place (I don't get on here at all) I can send a comment that MS will see?

Just to add another voice to the list so that maybe instead of just fixing
holes in Vista, Microsoft can fix oversights. I've found that wmf and emf
files produce equally empty thumbnails in windows explorer. Some of us have
spent many years collecting a large library of clip art from various
programs, including those from Microsoft. It seems at best to be an
oversight and at worst a lousy coscious decision to not even support
thumbnails of previous Microsoft clipart files. It is, however, fixable, and
would make a delightful fix to add to the upcoming service pack, which sounds
like a pretty boring "update."
