Missing WMF/EMF thumbnails in explorer shell

A

Andy Wyatt

When you explore to a folder containing WMF and EMF files in Windows XP and
use the View->Thumbnails option, you can see a 'live' picture of the image
in a thumbnail. This functionality seems to work 'out of the box' in this
OS.

In Windows Vista, WMF/EMF files appear only as an application icon.

Is there any way to enable WMF/EMF files to appear as 'live' picture icons
like other files do under Vista (for example like jpg and png files)?

Has Microsoft deliberately removed this functionality, for example because
of WMF security issues I've read about?

Thanks for your help,
Andy Wyatt.
