thumb (jump) drives

My daughter purchased a thumb drive for her son but her computer doesn't see
it although it is seen by other computers. It also doesn't see a USB external
cd-rom drive. Her USB is enhanced. Running XP SP2, P4-1.8, 30Gig HD, 256MB
Ram.Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Try removing the USB entries from the device manager , then reboot and
let XP refind the USB ports.
