this tab stop is too large

Using format | Tabs window & updating 1 tap from "Leader 1 (none)" to
"Leader 2 (...) - invoking "Set" & then "OK" results in subject error
message higlighting "Default tab stops:" entry window which contains the
default value : 0.5"

yikes; what gives?
