"This Page Cannot Be Displayed" Error...HELP!

Scott

Hi,

Well, yesterday my IE6 stopped working. I would open it up
and I would get the "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" DNS
error. I then go to the address bar and press enter to
try again and I get an error pop up that says "IE could
not open the search page." I think that's really strange so
I make sure that I'm connected to the interent - MSN Msger
works, Outlook Express works, every internet related
application works just like normal. I even do a ping
127.0.0.1 in MSDOS Prompt and everything is fine. Then,
when I was cleaning out my Recycle Bin I click on the IE
button in the drop down menu and low and behold IE opens up
just like normal - no error! I then go back to my desktop
to see if the normal shortcut works like normal and it
doesn't - same old error messages! I have no idea whats
wrong now. I've tried installing the latest IE6 patch,
reinstalling IE6, checking the registry (from what I can
tell its fine but I don't know too much about registry
stuff). I also did a virus scan with the latest
definitions and nothing! Now this started all started
after I'd been downloading several file sharers and of
course the adware/spyware that comes with it...I blocked
the adware programs from accessing the Internet with
ZoneAlarm and I made sure that they don't start on start-up
by going through MS Config, but still those programs are a
pain. Could it be a new undefind virus?? I've run out of
ideas...Please help me! Thank you so much for your time.
Anything that you think may be the least bit helpful is
welcome! Thanks again!

If you ping 127.0.0.1 it's should be ok it's your local computer.
Try to ping www.microsoft.com

Henri Leboeuf,

Thank you very much for your help! My IE is now working
just like normal. I was infect with the CWS.bootconf,
which I got rid of thanks to you. It turns out however,
that it was my Winsock32 that was having the problems and
therefore the site <http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm> was
extremely helpful! Thanks again for your help!

Sincerely, Scott
