when i first connect to the internet via my modem, the
taskbar freezes and modem through-put is suspended. After
about 6 minutes the it unfreezes and any icons that
have been clicked on along the taskbar during the freeze,
suddenly open. Any ideas???

SOMEBODY HELP ME!

Don't shout or make demands in the subject line. Give some
useful info in the text.
You have some applications in conflict and they are at high
priority, ie, not releasing the CPU to do the next operation
until finished. Your ISP may be slow or your phone line
bad, noisy which is causing problems.

In other words your multitasking [time splitting/slicing]
isn't properly setup and this could be corrupt or damaged
files. A repair install maybe need if running chkdsk,
defragging and sfc /scannow, don't fix the problem.

Bring up the task manager (crtl - alt - del then click on
the task manager tab - click on processes and see what
process is taking all your resources) then post back.

1- Have no FTP stuff
2- cant open task manager
3- already formatted 2 times and problem persists.
4- Have ADSL..

waiting reply..... =)

Find a large strong box, place the computer and keyboard,
along with all CDs for the Operating System and applications
and send it to JH Macklin, P.O. Box 12603, Wichita, KS
67277-2603 and include $250 cash or money order. I'll
return it in 3 months fully operational with the hope that
nothing bad happens during the return trip. If any damage
happens while it is being shipped either direction, you will
accept responsibility and cost of any parts required.
Or you could call somebody in your neck of the woods and
have them come out to service it at your place, probably
$100/ 2hours+$45 each extra hour.

You don't accept PayPal ?
It appears he only accepts CashBuddy!

Nope and of course I'm not serious about the "offer." But
there are computer techs that are qualified in almost any
town. They charge about $45/hr in this area for an A+
certified tech.

SOMEBODY HELP ME!

I can't help you with your problem but I have a similar one.

I have WINXP Pro SP1 and any updates up to about 4 to 6 weeks ago. I use a
cable modem throu Comcast but do my newsgroups and email through AOL. Once in
a while, while in AOL, I'll click on something (I haven't pinned it down to
anything specific. It varies.) and the system locks up. CNTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't
do anything and if I have other tasks on the task bar, clicking on them does
nothing. After X minutes (I don't know how long; I generally leave the
computer area for a while.) I'll look at the screen and there's Windows Task
Manager (as many copies as the number of times I've clicked CNTRL-ALT-DEL) and
any other tasks I've tried to activate from the task bar. This problem occurs
with a frequency that varies from once every couple of days to 2 or 3 times a
day. I haven't found any thing specific that I'm running at the same time as
AOL with the possible exception of the command prompt (I just thought of that
as I'm typing) that might be a factor. Nothing I'm doing in AOL can be pinned
down as the triggering event either. I've decided to live with this for now.

If I find a solution, I'll post it to the newsgroup and I'd appreciate it if
you would do likewise.

Thanks.
