This is a hard one...

Hey guys I have a question regarding windows XP and safe mode.

I was having a problem with Norton AntiVirus and their tech guy told me to
change a setting where the PC will only boot into safe mode. No matter what I
do it only boots into safe mode. This would be fine, but when safe mode comes
up I cannot do anything. No taskbar, the windows hot keys don't work. I have
th unfortunate feeling I am screwed. Let meknow what you guys think.

Thanks,
Scott Furnish

Press ctrl-alt-delete, and in the taskmanager that opens, use the
applications tab, and 'New Task" button to type in :
MSCONFIG

The "Boot.INI" tab will allow you to take the checlmark out of "/SAFEBOOT"

While this looks like it will work. When I press Control/Alt/delete the
button that says task manager cannot be pushed. It is faded out like its not
an option.

Thank You,
Scott

Your best bet is the recovery console available from a startup from setup CD.
(There are also boot floppys, or boot CD's available from download for this)
You will be able to edit the boot.ini file from there.
How to use the Automatic Recovery feature to recover your computer :

HOW TO Edit the Boot.ini File in Windows XP:

You want to remove the "... /SAFEBOOT" switch at the end of the [Operating
System} line

yup that the one they got be to change. boot.ini

What setting is it that they told you to change? When the computer
boots tap the F8 key then select the option to boot normally, the
computer should boot OK unless the clowns at Symantec got you to put a
/safeboot switch on the sole ARC path in the boot.ini file.

Obtaining Windows XP Setup Boot Disks (Q310994):

If you lack a floppy drive, the cheapest solution might be to buy one.

A more technical solution is the BartPE disk, but it's not for beginners.
