I get the following error message when I try to open my word docuement.
"This document may be corrupt. To preserve the contents, Choose Select All
from the Edit menu, then choose Copy from the Edit menu. Create a new
document, then choose Paste from the Edit menu".
I'm using Office 2000. I run Win XP pro

There's more to it than that. You can find lots of advice by web-searching,
but here's a few things to try first.

1. Search for and remove all the section breaks in your file. Section breaks
can carry corruption into the new file.

2. Go to the end of your corrupted file and select all. Press the Shift key,
and move the cursor back up past the last paragraph marker in the doc. Those
often hold corruptions. Now Copy all.

3. Before you paste, do this. Probably your normal.dot file is corrupted.
Delete normal.dot (when you reopen the file, it creates a new normal.dot.) If
you use another template, it's probably corrupted also, so replace it from a
backup copy of your template.

4. In your open file, click New, select Document, and then paste your file
into the new document.

5. Save as a different name, just so you can delete the other one (perhaps
not necessary, but cautious).

Sometimes this works the first time, but usually it's the third time, so
repeat it a few times before giving up.
