this beta is a joke?

hi,
my experiences with the public beta:

device manager: 4 yellow marks (3 unknown devices and usb audio). got the
newest chipset drivers for my asus board (nforce 4 chipset) and the driver cd
for my hybrid prodigy usb stick. the driver is not accepted and produces
bluescreens. a standart usb audio drive can not be installed (code 10).
following devices were not found after the first start: pinnacle tv card,
logitech webcam, canon scanner.
so the driver cab seems to be the same as from win95 *gg

audio support: the line-in is on full volume no matter if you turn it
down...it doesn´t work.
screen cloning: no possibility to configure the lcd in a different way as
the tv screen. you got 640x480 EVERYWHERE.
clicking up to 4 times to put some icons in the recycle bin??? no comment.
no internet: ethernet adapter seems to be ok...device manager says it works
but i can´t get any connection. under xp with the same options it works fine.

please don´t look at you release date - look for a OS that WORKS.

You should use the link on the desktop to report bugs. The whole point of a
beta program is to find bugs. You found some. Please report them.

if i got my internet started under vista i will post bugs.
i just formatted and will reinstall now.
but the fact that vista had problems to install a logitech webcam for
example is poor. xp got it without prompting.

Then blame Logitech. Sounds like they haven't participated in the program
very well, have they?

There are no Vista drivers for the Logitech - I own one as well and use the
XP drivers with good success.

People are crazy. Did they think this was going to be a final version or
something.
Here are the facts:
Microsoft has to push the envelope, if they didn't we would have another XP.
If they included all the old drivers what would be the sense of a new OS.
They release a new OS and everyone else has to catch up, eventually all the
software maufacturers will catch up and everything will work properly, all
for our benieft. Newer drivers usually equal better performance Remember it's
a BETA, not even a RC1. When everyone does catch we'll all be happy and Vista
will slowly become the OS of choice. REMEMBER the whole idea of a new OS is
exactly that IT'S NEW and it'll take some time to iron out all the bugs.
That's where you come in the so called beta testers. It's your job to find
the bugs not whine about them and when you do find them REPORT them. That'll
make quicker work of getting the final product (and all it's corresponding
drivers) out to you (The Public) in good working form.....Eric

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm tired of people who don't even knw
how to burn an iso image, installing a beta OS and then whining when it
doesnt work as well as XP..of course it doest work like XP does...XP is 5
years old and Vista is at least 6 months from release!

Can I just laugh now? Some how in the course of installation and running the
BETA both of my Raptor HD's went bye bye, have I complained, no, did I report
a bug ya even though I have no idea what exactly happened. THe point is like
you guys have said, it is a BETA, more so you CHOSE to run it. Knowing that
it is not COMPLETE you take the RISK and UNDERSTAND that it is not a COMPLETE
OS.

meh!!

Hey hows the weather there?

Don't be a moron. This is not just a beta. It's a public beta directed at
potential consumers not IT pro or developers. Vista is crap. It's got more
holes than Microsoft will be able to fix. Vista is going to have the biggest
service pack in software history, basically a whole new OS.

People should always report report problems that they have via the reporting
services embedded in Vista, nonethe less this Beta 2 is really an Alpha
application.

Microsoft didn't push this beta to the public because they wanted to be
nice, they realized that there were a million bugs in Vista that even all the
IT pro and developers wouldn't be able to resolve in a year and considering
that it is scheduled for release later this year for businesses they are
trying their best to at least be a able to release a commercial beta of Vista.

I want to thank ATI and Creative for taking the time and resources to
release beta drivers of the hardware for Vista. They are part of only a few
companies that have faith in vista. Considering that MICROSOFT did not even
release beta drivers of their intellityp/point keyboard and mouse. How am I
supposed to test a program when I can't fully utilize my keyboard which is
made by MICROSOFT.

Microsoft really needs to get their act together.

The only guys that are really working at MICROSOFT ARE THE OFFICE 2007
developers. You can tell a lot of hardwork went into OFFICE 2007. They may
call it a beta but I call it complete. Office is the only true Microsoft
program that I'm proud to be beta testing and truly look forward to the
retail versions.

Vista still has a long way to go.

Im not having too many issues with Vista, seems like if one knows what one is
doing you can get thru the bumps. I enjoy a challenge with the Beta
software, gives on a little insight into the OS.

So far, Vista has been the best beta OS that I have ever run. I am very
impressed with it.

If you guys read my post. I didn't say Vista was a bad OS. I love its
potential. What I said was that its more of an alpha than a beta. Sure Vista
works well out of the box. But thats not the point and I'm positive thats not
what Microsoft is looking for.

Microsoft asked people like me, you, them to test the beta. I've given
feedback to them as necessery. The problem is that some people just don't
like hearing others criticize MS.

Windows Vista is like Windows 95. It's a whole new OS in most parts. Its
going to have more than enoug bugs by default which will have to be cleaed up
during the life of the OS.

Also I wasn't all out against MS, I did commend them on Office 2007. Which I
love.

Remember this is a beta. Itssupposed to have flaws, anyone who claims their
Vista Beta 2 works flawlessly is joking.

If you go to the Vista MSDN site you'll see over a thousand bug fixes
planned for the next release.

In red-letter text on the GetReady page:

"From http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx

"Note: This is beta code and should not be used in a production environment
or on a main machine in the home. Beta 2 is intended for developers, IT
professionals and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of
Windows Vista. Before you decide to use Beta 2, you should feel comfortable
with installing operating systems, updating drivers, and general PC
troubleshooting. Some risks of using beta operating systems include hardware
and software incompatibility and system instability. If you have concerns
about installing this beta software on your computer, we encourage you to
obtain the final release version of Windows Vista when it is available in
2007."
