Thermalright XP-120 - What fan to get? (Socket 939)

Marc Brown

Fixing to put together a decent PC for once. So I'm going to pick
up what a friend of mine assures me is the best possible heatsink,
the Thermalright XP-120. It doesn't come with a fan, and there
doesn't seem to be any agreement on which fan would be best, so I've
come here to ask the pros.

First of all, I should mention that I intend to use this heatsink on
an MSI K8N Neo2 motherboard. I don't even know, offhand, whether or
not this is possible to do, given the motherboard's architecture.
If anyone is using this combination successfully, please chime in!

The information I'm mainly after is what fan(s) would be good with
this heatsink on a MSI K8N Neo2 Socket939 motherboard. Feel free
to recommend anything that is good. I can look up the specs later
and judge whether or not I'd be willing to put up with doubtless
ear-shattering noise. :p I'm sure there are fans that are good
withot being excessively loud.

Thanks in advance!

You should get the Panasonic PanaFlo 120mm fan, it has the best RPM to CFM
to dB of all fans.

Though reading the motherboard compatibility chart on Thermalright's
website, your motherboard won't support this fan.

try the new cooler master 120mm fan. If it's like their 80mm neon
fans, it should be pretty good.
