There was an error accessing <file>

I would like some assistance understanding a problem we are having
with PowerPoint 2002, sp3.

Workstations: Win XP, all service packs and updates applied
Server: Win2003Server, also updated and service packed, running
Shadowcopy

I've been encouraging my users to "Save" their work after every slide
or two.

Occassionally the application hangs for about 45 seconds, then user
gets an exclamation point message that "There was an error accessing
[path and name of file]." The file is not saved.

Doing a "File Save As" does work, the file saves immediately.

If we save to our local hard drives, the problem does not appear.

The problem is erratic, and at least two users have the problem.

The presentations do not contain any Active Movies (one contains
animations, the other does not).

Thank you,

Hi,

Possible options are:

a network interruption,
a virus scanner or disk utility locking the disk
low disk space

On top of all that, I've seen this when my computer is looking for network
shares. I found this:

Kind of sad that the developer of the operating system and the developer
of the
software that runs on it can't talk to one another more often.

It's not like it'd run up the long distance phone bill ... ;-)

That's right. Just a run up the hill ;-)
