There is a program I cannot remove

There is a program I cannot remove. I go to control panel; then Add or
Remove programs; then I get a list of my programs; then I scroll down to the
program; I click on the program; then I click on Change/Remove; and then I
get a message that it is already in use or it has been uninstalled.

(I have done this several times and even rebooted, all to no avail.)

If the program is in use I am not aware of it running. It is not listed
under programs running under Task Manager [Alt. + Ctrl. + Del.].

The program has not been uninstalled. I get a listing of dirty programs
every time I have been away from my computer for three or more hours - - and
I'm caught in a trap. In order to delete these (specious) items I must
purchase the program. I don't want to purchase the program, ESPECIALLY not
after this occurrence. [I was comparing the type of program.]

How would I delete this program?

Go into safe mode and try deleting from there.

To go into safe mode, you need to reboot the system and then keep
pressing F8 function key until you get black screen (old dos type screen
with text). Scroll up to safe mode and see if this helps.

Hey Barry.

Do Ctrl + Alt + Del and look under your processes tab. A lot of times,
programs won't show up in your applications tab, but are still running
in the background. If you see it in your processes tab, end the
process, and repeat the uninstallation. If you don't see it there, then
chances are the uninstall file is corrupt, or the program didn't
install correctly. If that is the case, you might want to reinstall the
program and see if you can uninstall it afterwards.

If you still can't uninstall the file after doing a fresh installation
of the program, restart your computer in safe mode, and then try again.
Most of the time, safe mode solves a lot of problems. If you STILL
can't uninstall it while in safe mode, then there is something wrong
with the program itself, and you will need to contact the company who
provided you with the application.
