There got to be a simpler way

Here is our ultimate goal. We are trying to record four news channels each
day. Taking roughly 30-60 sec clips from each station. Placing the clips on
computer. Cutting and labeling the clips to disseminate to other internal
network users for information purposes. Basically a homegrown video clip
service for internal distribution.

At this point we have tried to go the TiVo route. The four TiVo's are linked
together and we are able to successfully capture the targeted broadcasts. We
attempted to get video to the PC by recording to DVD which worked but TiVo's
video won't open in Window's XP movie maker. Apparently there is some kind of
encoding incompatability.

There's got to be a better way to accomplish this task. Any ideas or
suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
