Any way to prevent MM changing exported video size?

Hi all,

I've been using MovieMaker (v5.1, shipped with WinXP Home) and it does
everything I need in terms of editing (I'm just cutting clips into smaller
chunks and re-exporting), however I have some non-regular video sizes that
need saving.

The list of 'Movie Settings' used when saving a clip are generally either
640x480 or 320x240, but no sizes in-between. I have a bunch of clips with
non-regular sizes such as 448x336, which look blocky if I export at 640x480
and I don't want to reduce the size by going to 320x240. Is there any way
for me to specify a custom size?

Thanks very much.

Hi there,

There may be a way to do it, I think its on www.papajohn.org

But, do you want to have these sizes for any special reason, or just
because the original is that size. If the later and there is no special
reason then you can pick the nearest size in MM2, making sure that you do
not go a size that is a lot bigger than the original and MM2 will happily
render up or down to the required size, without further input from you..

Hi Again,

I made the same mistake as I am about to point out to you, The version
number of Movie Maker is 2 and not V5.1 The reason is that the help box in
MM2 is not as well laid out as it might be. The version number 5.1 refers
to XP being version 5.1 of NT. I thought I had struck lucky and got some
sort of pre-release version the first time I saw it....dumb or
what?...don't answer that.

The page at www.papajohn.org is Saving Movies > Custom WMV Profiles

Excellent, that was exactly the info I was looking for. I simply copied the
existing 640x480 profile I was using, and changed it to 480x360 & lowered
the bit rate a little.

Thanks very much!
