Theme corrupt?

Hi,

Over the past week I had problems with XP Pro and Outlook and I think it has
something to do with the Theme.

Sometimes when I start XP or Outlook the "look" is grey rather than blue.
Now to be honest I can't remember how "Windows Classic" looks looked like but
it could possibly be that.

Anyway, when I go onto "Display Properties" > "Themes", sometimes it lists
the "XP Windows" theme and sometimes it doesn't. When it is there and I
select it the following message comes up:

"The theme could not be loaded because the theme service is not
running........"

I already checked services and the theme service is running. I only get this
message when I try to load "Windows XP" if I select "Windows Classic" or "My
current theme" I don’t get the error messages.

Anyone any thoughts?

Thanks

Alexander

Thanks for getting back to me.

I tried everything suggested, none of it worked. What I didn't try as I
don't understand what it means is the following:

"If Luna.theme is missing: Go to Start/Run/Msconfig/Expand Files: Luna.MS_
and Luna.TH_"

I run Msconfig and at the bottom of the General tab I select Expand Files,
but then I have three boxes to fill in "File to restore", "Restore From",
"Save File in".
I don't know what to do here and the website isn't very clear about this
either.
Could you please give me some hints on what to do next?

Thank you

Alexander

Check to see if you have Luna.Theme under C:\Windows\Resources\Themes and if you have
Luna.msstyles under C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Luna

If you haven't then you'll need to extract/Expand them - see link above for example

Example: expand d:\i386\Luna.MS_ C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Luna
expand d:\i386\Luna.TH_ C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\

Hi,
Tried that late last night but didn't make any difference. But what I
disocered is the following:

After a startup I can find the Windows XP theme in the
Desktop/Properties/General Tab. Everything seems to run fine but after about
one minute the Windows XP (Luna) Theme disappears and when I Browse for it,
it reports the previously mentioned error message (Theme Service not
running).
I was wondering it my Theme Service is perhaps corrupt as it is reported to
be running. I tried a restart but it didn't make any difference. Is there a
way to re-install the Theme Service? Any other ideas would also be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks again for your help.

Go to Start/Administrative Tools/Services/Themes. Set to Automatic. Also check your
settings here:

Start/Administrative Tools/Services/Terminal Services/Log On. At the bottom ensure
that Hardware Profile Original Configuration is Enabled.

Hi,

Yes, tried al of the above.
I just find it very strange that occasionally everything is working perfect,
as just now for example.
Also realised that I seem to also have a problem with opening links in
Outlook. When I select a link in the email it opens up an "Open" folder. Not
sure if these problems are related.
