If it doesn't appear again, ignore it.
If it appears regularly, see Kelly's link below. Click on "S" and scroll
down to "serious error message"

The name for yor BCCode (which is also referred to as a STOP
0x000000EA) is THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER

The most common cause is a defective video driver or an actual fault
in the video card.

If you have recently updated the drivers for your video card (display
adapter) then open Control Panel - System, go to the Hardware tab and
click on the Device Manager button. In Device Manager click on the +
sign in front of the Display adapters category, right-clcik the entry
for your display adapater, and select Properties. Go to the driver
tab and select the "Roll back driver" option and follow the steps to
revert to your previous driver.

If you have not recently updated the drivers then go to the video card
manufacturer's web site and check for updated drivers for your exact
model of card.

Good luck

Thanx Ron Martell.

Back in September 2-inch sometimes yellow/sometimes blue (depending on the
background) verticle columns would often appear on my screen when I would be
playing games or surfing the net.

In addition, when i ran a "verification of errors" scan i got the following
message:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF742D570,0xF78CE598,0xF78CE294)

***NDIS.SYS - Address F742D570 base at F740F000, DateStamp 41107ec).

My reaction was to update my ati readon 9800 pro 128 from the ati website.

Present Situation: On the average of 3 times a day usually while playing
games or surfing the net my computer freezes. I get a black screen with 5
thick blue verticle columns. Sometimes I can see the blurry images of what I
was previously viewing on the screen. Most often there is a rotation of black
screen/blue screen and back to black screen. Every screen has either columns
or broken up images or dead pixel rows and columns. In most cases the vpu
recover message does not come on in which case I have to turn the computer
off using the power button. Rarely does the vpu recover come on after a deep
freeze. Sometimes the computer will freeze up during a game or while surfing
or during an idle on an intact (not broken up by columns, rows of dots etc)
image.

WHAT GAMES HAVE I BEEN RUNNING?

i have the following games:

1) uru: ages beyond myst

2) ea sports: mvp baseball 2004, nhl 2004, mba 2004

3) microsoft cfs3, fs 2004, train simulator

During the spring/summer I downloaded a bunch (about 15) of demos which I
deleted on September 1 and that’s the time when I started to experience the 2
inch sometimes yellow/sometimes blue verticle columns. Did the deletion have
anything to do with it????

That error message is SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and you will
find more information on it at http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm -
click on the "7E: System Thread..." link in the left side column.

The mention of NDIS.SYS in the error message indicates that this time
the error is related to networking (ndis.sys is a network driver).

With that situation and with your earlier post regarding the
THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER error message it appears possible that
you have a defective or overheating video card. I believe the Radeon
9800 has a cooling fan for the video controller chip so you might want
to check and ensure that the fan is spinning freely with no noise or
vibration and that there is no buildup of dust or fuzz on the fan
blades or heat sink. You could also check the ATI website for any
dignaostic utilities that you can download to test your card for
faults. I don't know if they have any such utilities but it is worth
checking.

Good luck
