When I pressing intall button for installing windows defender(beta2) I am
getting the following message " The system cannot open the device or file
specified". "retry or cancel". If I am pressing retry nothing will happen. If
I am pressing the cancel button the following message is displaying.
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.
This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755". I
downloaded windows defender(beta2) 3 times. I am using genuine windows XP sp2.

Hi Tom,
I am very sorry to inform that your remedy is not working. I tried so many
times. Some of the files in that dial a fix is also not installing to my
system. My windows automatic update is always in ON position. Suggest another
method.
Thanks.

Hello JM,

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
adinistratºr.
This is the key!
The installation as an admin is not enough.
You needed to login as an adm!n.

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature update
with windows defender will fail until you hªve these f!les.

Be sure you have Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/community/centers/management/msi_faq.mspx

I'd recommend re-downloading, and saving to a known location--like the
desktop.
After the download is complete, disable real-time protection by your
antivirus for long enough to do the installation. please disable or turn off
as much other software that always runs as you can--real time antivirus
scanning, any other antispyware software, etc.

For the benefit of the community reading this post, please rate the pºst.

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Hi JM,

Please download to your desktop, from here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&displaylang=en

Before the installation, you can use Ccleaner to clean all the junk.
http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp
Note, When you install Ccleaner, uncheck the Yahoo toolbar option.
Note, in Options, Settings, Advanced, uncheck - Only delete files in Windows
folders older than 48 hours.
Open Ccleaner and press "Windows" "Aplications" and Run Cleaner from the
menu choose 'Issues' and then press scan for issues, Repair any fºund.
Run twice Ccleaner, the same as above, until you get “0 bytes to be removedâ€.

Good luck.

I was finished. That is the correct word. I tried and tired. I tried all the
methods suggested by both of you. Express and custom installation from the
Microsoft’s update site informed that no updates are available for my system.
So I tried with AutoPacher April and May 2006 release for XP. The result is
the same which I have mentioned in the first stage. Now I have decided why I
should bother about to install Windows defender beta 2 in my computer where
Microsoft’s AntiSpyware Beta 1 is running smoothly (This version expires on
July 31), if they cannot offer a simple and problem free installation which
is required for a normal computer user. It is Microsoft’s and their program
developer’s headache. Not mine. So I decided not to switchover to the windows
defender until they offer a simple installation instead of a complicated one.
Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions.
Thank you once again.
Bye.

I am very happy to inform to whom it may concern that my Microsoft
Antispyware has automatically, (with my permission) downloaded and installed
Windows Defender Beta 2
in my system like an usual updating on 07/15/2006. To overcome the error
message "Windows Defender definitions haven’t been updated" I removed the
current signature file as per the direction in the
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105. (To do this, click Start, click
Run, type Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}, and then click
OK.) After that Windows Defender Beta 2 automatically downloaded new updates.
Now it is running smoothly and I am very happy.
Thanks for whom it may concern.
