the system cannot log you on now because the domain is not available

dear sir,

i need ur help for connecting my win xp pro(sp1) to win
2000 server. i have already connected server successfully
from workstation. when i connect to server the following
err mesg displays

"the system cannot log you on now because the domain is
not available"

pls tell, what should i do.

Try ping the server by IP address and by Server name. If
you cannot ping either way, disable the ICF that is
blocking ICMP (Ping). If you can ping the server, go to
start > programs > accessories > Dos Prompt and type

ipconfig /release
and hit return. Next type

ipconfig /renew

and hit return.

If this doesn't fix your problems, check your TCP/IP
properties for the network card of the client (XP
Machine). Ensure that you are obtaining an IP address
automatically AND you are obtaining DNS information
automatically.

If this all fails, post an ipconfig /all for the client
and an ipconfig /all for the server.
