I get this error message when copying a gig or two between
a XP Pro machine and an XP Home machine on a network with
3 XP Pro, one XP Home and one 98 machines using a hub.
Usually get a hundred or so 12 meg files "through" but not
all. I have tried everything! The only machines that can
stay "seen" are one of the XP Pro and the 98. The
others "come and go" as they please. What is up with this?
Does this built in networking work or is it a peice
of ....? Is there a cheap way to get a "real server"?

I've seen this a dozen times before and it was always an issue at the
physical layer. Either a bad NIC/NIC driver, bad cable or bad
hub/switch/router port. Assuming this is the problem then unfortunately the
only way to troubleshoot it is to swap hardware until you can figure out
which piece of hardware the problem follows. I'd also make sure you're
fully update on all patches as well, just to be sure.

Hope this helps,
