"The page cannot be displayed"

Hello. I am using WindowsXP (home) as my operating system. I have an Asus Pentium 4 40 gig hard drive w/1000gig of RAM. Hope that helps you understand my system. I have no difficulty getting connected to the net

I cannot access IE 6.0. Every time I try I get the error message: The page cannot be displayed. I can open Netscape, but after I've opened it several times, it "freezes" and will not reopen;, the only solution then, reboot. This messes up everything I'm doing -- I have to reload a particular program that takes much time. Opera, which doesn't access very many sites on the web, opens every time, and runs beautifully

What have I done? I've reloaded IE6.0, which worked for two or three times then went back to "The page....." I've run Spyhunter, and Ad Aware. No help.

I do not know how to call up a site by IP -- which has been suggested to me. Nor, do I know how to ping a website

I really need to be able to access the IE6.0 Browser. Please, any help will be appreciated.

Boot into Safe Mode and...

Check your system for "hijackware":

CoolWebSearch Chronicles & CWShredder
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

Run in this order:

1. CWShredder (fix all)

2. Ad-Aware (fix all)

3. Spybot (generally, fix all in red)

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30 for expert analysis, not here.**

[Alternate download pages for many of the above tools may be found at
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
