This is a good one and I am stumped.

Very many pages cannot be displayed. IE google, yahoo, ...... but others
come through. The computer had a virus that was cured. I could reformat
the hd but that is too easy. I want to beat this. Things that I have done:

Checked the hosts file OK
Run sfc
Checked security settings - set to lowest level
No banned sites

Okay, so I think the answer is to download firefox or IE7. Both give me the
message "Your security setting do not allow the ....." All security
settings are set to the lowest security settings.

Any suggestons?

Hi Dave,

Try disabling your IE "Add-Ons". In tools Internet Options / Programs. I guess you are running IE6 ?

Add-ons can be disabled one at a time or all at once - to see if things improve.

Good luck,

Ken

No point in installing IE7 if IE6 isn't working right. I suggest you post
to the internet explorer newsgroup:

I apologize for not including that in the "things tried". I deleted all the add-ons.

Thanks,

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
