The MFT Record

Can someone explain the MFT record to me, and does the MFT record get too big
when it's padding it? I read somewhere that padding the MFT record is a one
way operation and somewhere else that it takes space to pad it, but how much?
Is it necessary to pad the MFT Record?

So, what happens when the MFT is 100% full?
And what is a fragshield I keep hearing about?

It grows bigger and thus become only 75% full or something.
It's all automatic and you don't need to worry about the MFT. It requires no input from you to work.
