Some FOrms that we have on microsoft exchange work fine via outlook 2003.
however we're now evaluating wether we sould upgrade to Outlook 2007 and when
trying to forward a form we get the following message "the messaging
interface has returned an unknown error"
Not a very helpful error message, has anyone encountered this bug beforfe
and are they able to offer resolution or let me know where to start looking?

Thanks In Advance

Where is the form published? Is the Forward action set up to use the published form? Did you try clearing the forms cache?

Thanks for the reply Sue.

The form is posted in our "Organizational Forms Library". I'm using the
forward button on the tool bar, not a forward button built into the form. I
am unsure how I would clear the forms cache.

The forward issue is extremely relevant. Check it in your form design, on the (Actions) page.

As for the forms cache, see http://www.outlookcode.com/d/formscache.htm

Sue, sorry for the delay in writing to you, the link you have does not detail
office 2007 problems, I have installed it locally on my machine (I was
connecting through citrix) and I am still having the same problem. Any other
solutions I can try?

Thanks

Last post did not accept I think hope I'm not double posting. Sue I have
eventually got a local copy of outlook 2007 installed locally on my pc, the
forward option in actions is there and set to respect users default, I have
looked at the link you sent for clearing the cache but the instructions on
the link seem to be out of date and not relevant to outlook 2007 as I cannot
find Frmcache.dat.

prior to the error message I caught a quick flash of a progress bar saying
"copying form to your (something, not sure what, as it displayed fast and now
I no longer see the message and only get the messaging interface error)"

After trying all suggested I still have this problem, is there any resolution
available yet?

I cleared the forms cache as suggested, not sure how I go about deleting all
the forms on an exchange server and I doubt our exchange team would let us.

That's not what I was suggested. I was suggesting that you completely clear the *local* cache. The command in Outlook just deletes the Frmcache.dat file. To completely clear the cache, you also need to delete all the subfolders in the Forms folder where Frmcache.dat is also located.

Okay thanks sue, I can't however find a frmcache.dat on my PC, can you tell
me exactly which directory the forms are held in? I did a default install.

for some reason this thread is repeatede over and over for me?

Anyway,

We are getting the same error, we have a custom form that has a text box to put in a project number on emails in which it ads to the category of the email and carbon copies it to our filing system. It all works fine in 2007, but when you go to forward an email it pops up with that message.

I tried 'designing' the template in 2007, and saving it again, that seemed to fix it - ie just open the form in 2007 and save it again, but I forgot to turn off my signature, and when I went back and got rid of it it broke it again!!

So now I'm back to square one.

There's another error thats happening but thats another thread.

If you have been using custom forms, you should have more in that folder than those two files. Make sure that Windows Explorer is set to show hidden and system files and folders.

Still looking for your answer to my question about the form setting for the Forward action. It should be set to use the same published form, not the standard Message form.

Sue,

I have tried all you have posted in this thread, deleted the FRMCACHE.DAT from the forms folder, and also deleted 'IPM.Note.bw_std' which is the name of our custom form - those are the only 2 things in that folder, and yes I have view system/hidden files on.

I opened a form and it installed it on my machine again- I can forward messages fine that are sent by people internally (ie sent from people who are using the standard form) but anything we recieve from external (ie who haven't used our form) we can't forward.

Some (but not all) people have no trouble forwarding emails from within their inbox - but no one in the office can forward emails from external people that are in the public folders.

The custom form actions have not changed since last week when we were using outlook 2003, Forward is Enabled, creates form of type BW_Std (which is our custom form), address form like 'Forward', When Responding respects users default, and adds prefix FW to it. - All standard stuff, and all of this was working fine and still does work fine in outlook 2003.
