The Lowdown on my new Vista Ultimate PC

D

Dr. Hackenbush

Had an all dancing singing Vista ultimate PC for around 2 month now. tons of
Megahertz Gigabytes and Ram in all the right places.

Main uses are video editing and digital audio workstation. Both will use all
the resources thrown at them. On my Xp machine no problems no complaints.

Long story short, Vista PC too many problems to list and countless hours
spent tring to sort out.
So i start thinking what benefit is there from Vista even if i could sort
out the problems ? i cant actually think of any !

Hmmm , what if i take Vista off and replace with XP, all those resources and
ram etc etc that the behemoth known as vista uses just to keep itself alive
and running your PC the way Microsoft says and wants it run will be
available for my apps to use

In for a penny in for a pound ! reformat and install Xp...............about
3 hours later i'm up and running all neccesary tweaks and updates are
installed. Another hour installing and setting up my Video and Music
Software and a few other bits and pieces that i need.
3 - 2 -1 bam liftoff !!!! load a few of my video and multitrack audio
projects and have a look in task manager and some other resource monitoring
apps.
Take a second look and then a third...... is the machine actually doing
anything ? all the readings seem far far too low
The machine isnt even breaking into a trot, its pulse has hardly noticed the
work load, ok i know i'll add afew more tracks and open up a couple more
VSTi's (always guaranteed to make a machine sweat big time and put it in the
coronary zone !)

Do some big video renders loads of overlays etc etc, not a blip or dropped
frame in sight

Goodbye Vista , you are the weakest link !

If all you do on your Pc is emails and a bit of surfing and maybe even turn
out the odd letter, and like to sit there admiring how nice Vista looks,
then i'm sure youll be very happy, if on the other hand you actually use
your PC for "proper work" then my advice to you which will save you hours of
hand wringing and teeth gnashing is ditch Vista until its "fit for purpose",
that new Vista machine that you just got and you thought was gonna fly but
seems no faster than your old PC, put XP on it and it will.

Why is so much emphasis put on the look of Vista ? surely functionality
should be the headline grabber, what friggin use is the Aero interface ! its
totally pointless, Dreamscene again totally friggin pointless ! sorry i
forgot a lot of people are more interested in how it looks, at least Bill
Gates listened to what you wanted !!!!!!!!!!

Goodbye. I suggest that with your undisclosed tons of stuff that you
install XP X64. Stable and will be able to use all your stuff if you don't
need special drivers.
Great system for what you are doing.
