The Internet

Might seem off topic but actually it is on topic . . . what do you call a pc
not connected to the internet?

.. . . a paperweight. Given that, how likely do you think this is:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070414/ap_on_hi_te/rebuilding_the_internet

'Researchers explore scrapping Internet'

.. . . and the parapgraph I like best is:

'One challenge in any reconstruction, though, will be balancing the
interests of various constituencies. The first time around, researchers were
able to toil away in their labs quietly. Industry is playing a bigger role
this time, and law enforcement is bound to make its needs for wiretapping
known.'

.. . . in other words, government and corporations come first and the rest of
us get screwed.

More secure than one that is, especially if they're running Windows.

That's the way it always works. Anyone out there old enough
to remember FM radio before the unwashed masses and
marketeers got ahold of it? Or AM radio for that matter? Or
cable TV? Marvelous technologies, eventually reduced to
desolate commercial wastelands.

The internet has already become just another version of the
Home Shopping Network, only with the feds monitoring your
purchases and browsing habits, and the RIAA suing your
14 year-old kid for downloading MP3s.

Highly unlikely. Connection to the internet isn't a requirement.

.... Or your five-year-old.
