The Import (Excel) Tables feature is unavailable in Access 2000/2.

On my laptop I have Access 97, 2000, and 2003 installed (needed for different
apps). Only in the '97 version am I able to use the Import Tables function,
to import Excel spreadsheets. This feature is not available to me in the
other two versions. I each case I have the full premium version of Office
installed, and have not suppressed any features or wizards in the install.
Any suggestions? Thanks

This problem is usually fixed by re-registering the appropriate DLL.

For Excel files in Access 2000 onwards, re-register
msexcl40.dll (Excel)

The Access 97 DLL is msexcl35.dll.

One way to re-register a DLL file,

1) Locate it (usually all these are in the Windows\System32 or
WINNT\System32 folder.

2) Locate the file regsvr32.exe.

3) Drag the DLL file's icon onto the regsvr32.exe icon.

Thanks for the response, and I tried what you have suggested, but it does not
seem to have done the trick. What I expect to see (and what I have seen in
the past), is that once I choose Import Table and select the excel
spreadsheet I wish to import, and wizard of sorts will be invoked, and prompt
me to provide some information in order for the action to be completed.
After I re-registered the dll and then rebooted and re-tried, there was still
no reaction from Access.

Sorry, I didn't pick up from your first message that the wizard wasn't
working at all. Try re-registering the appropriate version(s) of
ACCWIZ.DLL - after making sure that they're present, and installed in
the correct folders.

This can get bit more complicated when you have multiple versions of
Access installed, because (unlike the ISAM dlls such as msexcl??.dll)
the name of ACCWIZ.DLL doesn't change with versions.

I don't know all the details. On this machine I have Access 97 and 2003,
installed under "C:\Program Files\Office 97" and "C:\Program
Files\Office 2003" respectively. The respective versions of ACCWIZ.DLL
are 8.x (in C:\Windows\System32) and 11.x (in "C:\Program Files\Office
2003\Office11").

With luck this is enough to get you going. If not, try a web search, or
ask again in microsoft.public.access.setupconfig.

Thanks yet again for your latest reply. I have tried what you suggested and
there is no change so I will post my question in the other forum you
mentioned.
