the file is already open

Any time I open Office doc. in My Documents folder, I get
an error: the file is already open, cannot have the file
open twice. Something like that. Any ideas how to fix it???
 
What version of Office do you have installed. i'm going
to guess that it is Office 97. i had this problem.
Office 97 was not written for Windows XP really, even
though it will run some features dont work.
