The dreaded Blue screen

1)I have XP pro running on an HP laptop installed at the
factory with a Conexant 56K Aclink modem and that
configuration will not allow XP to go into sleep mode.
When I update the drivers for that modem, it totally
messes up XP to the point that I have to remove it.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to how to correct this
problem?
2)Microsoft's Spider solitaire is constantly causing the
dreaded blue screen right in the middle of a game. Now
this is Microsoft's game on Microsoft's OS. Does Msft
KNOW that there is a problem here?

Update your drivers for the modem. If you have the latest drivers for the
modem already then you still need updated drivers for the modem (if you are
positive that this is what is causing your "sleep mode" issue)

Spider Solitaire has no known bugs that would cause Windows to blue screen.
Try disabling the third party software running in the background and see it
the problem still occurs.

May also want to update your video drivers for the blue screen issue.

We want to implement the Cleanboot process using MSCONFIG to rule out 3rd
party software as the cause of this issue. MSCONFIG from XP can be used on a
Windows 2000 Pro or Server client.

Go to Start\Run type in Msconfig and press OK.
Go to the Startup tab.
Click on "Disable All"
Go to the Services Tab
Click on "Hide all Microsoft Services"
Uncheck the 3rd party services that are left
Press OK twice to reboot.

Once your computer is restarted see if the issue still occurs. if it still
does go to Msconfig and select Enable All on the startup tab.
If the issue does not occur go to the Startup tab and select items 4 at a
time or so with reboots in between to narrow down the exact item causing
your problem.

This isn't a Windows issue - suggest you contact Conexant for a solution.

There is no such thing as *"the* dreaded blue screen" - what is the error?

That's immaterial - it's running on *YOUR* system containing *YOUR*
hardware - that's nothing to do with MS, now is it? Spider is my father's
favourite game - he plays it at least twice a day - and he's never seen a
blue screen. Therefore, I rather suspect this is peculiar to your system.
