the cursor has suddenly changed into a dot, need to change it

One of my secretaries has just noticed that her cursor has changed into a dot
in Word, when she uses Outlook it is still a vertical dash as per normal, any
ideas how to change it back to a vertical dash?
 
Try changing the zoom to 500% and then back to whatever you are
currently using.
