The Cursed Yahoo Toobar

Every 6 months or so the Yahoo toolbar attaches itself to ie by some
mysterious process. I used to be able to get rid of it by control panel ->
Remove Programs. This time it does not appear in the list of programs. Nor
does it appear in msconfig Startup.

How can I get rid of this sob? Is there a way I can prevent it from ever
coming back again?

"How can I get rid of this sob?"
Download and install the toolbar directly from Yahoo!. Restart your
computer, then uninstall the toolbar from Add or Remove Programs. Or
contact Yahoo! technical support.

Pay attention before you download things from the internet. In
particular, read carefully what you are agreeing to install.

Did you recently update Sun Java runtimes and not choose Custom Install?

What Ted is saying.. is this.
During the install you are asked several questions. Usually we do our
installs quickly and don't read them. Therefore, we answer "yes", "okay",
or "Agree" by default with out really reading the details. What's happening
is that a company has software that you want to install. But that company
has contracted with another company (Yahoo) to add the toolbar as part of
the installation. As per the new law, software companies are suppose to
give you the option to not install 3rd part garbage. Some of the older
applications that are downloaded from the Internet still do not comply with
this new law.

That's my best guess. Hope it makes sense.
