The Audio Service is not running.

I have been having a problem with my audio not working at all it just says
audio service not running on the task bar. I checked in services and tried to
start the audio service and got the 1068 error. So i checked the dependencies
and found that Multimedia Class Scheduler was not running. When i tried
starting the service i got error 2: the system cannot find the specified
file.

Is there a fix for this short of running a recovery?

Go into Device Manager, and see if there are any probs with your audio
Hardware,
If there is, right click on it, select Properties, and reinstall the Driver.

Drivers seem to be okay but i re-installed the sound drivers just to check
and still not working.

See if running the System File Checker tool helps.

The System File Checker tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions. To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue

3. At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:

sfc /scannow
