"The application failed to initialize properly"

I loaded new drivers from the gateway site and now occasionally I can't open
any programs, including opening the control panel. The mouse still functions
and an open window can be minimized but any running programs won't respond
and I can't even restart or turn off the computer w/o pulling the power plug.
When I try to run any program (including trying to restart) I get the ""The
application failed to initialize properly (xxxxx) click ok to close window"
err message. Any help would be appreciated. I have downloaded CounterSpy
and removed spyware and used PC mechanic to clean up my registry (which cause
the computer to freeze up once or twice). Thanks.

To roll back the drivers to the ones prior to the D/l from the
Gateway site do this,

winkey+pause/break> Hardware Tab >Devices Manager, select the device.
Right click > select properties > Driver Tab, choose roll back
driver.
Things such as PC Mechanic are dangerous in the wrong hands .. so
it's likely your drivers are not the cause of your problem, can
you restore the PC to a date prior to unleashing PC M.

Registry cleaners are fraught with problems, more trouble than they are
worth unless you know what you are doing. Avoid them. There are other
free programs to run to remove spyware. No one program can do everything.

Run these programs to check for spyware/malware. After installing
update them, then boot into safe mode and run them. You should update
and run them weekly.

Why did you do that? Was something not working?
