text insertions

normally I correct by deleting a word or phrase and inserting another one.The
text on the line moves up to allow this.But once or twice something strange
has happened.The text I insert wipes the succeeding text; the line does not
move up.I hv lost two hours this morn trying to track the problem.Can anyone
help.It must be a simple fault

It is a simple 'fault'. You have switched to overwrite mode. Press the INS
key once or double click the OVR indicator in the Word status bar.
