Text in Text box question

I print a lot of DVD jewel box inserts. During the process, I use a lot of
textboxes over the background fills. Most of the time there is no problem
seeing the BG through the text, but occasionally there is a white big behind
the text when I copy and paste to the textbox, and I'm unable to have the
transparency that I usually have. Is there any way to separate the white big
behind this text so that only the text will be seen over the graphic bg? Is
there a setting somewhere that will make the white text background
transparent? I hope I've made my problem clear enough.
