Trying to set up a letterhead template but can't get the text form field to
be inserted in the footer?

Form fields cannot be inserted in the header or footer because these areas
are not accessible in a protected document. What are you trying to
accomplish?

You really don't want to know!! :)

Group of organisations that have various offices (and various different
names of organisations) for voluntary service.

I had offered (in my foolish!) to set up templates for them. Originally
they wanted it so that no individual could tamper/change the logo and name
of organisation (header) and address, contact details etc (footer).

I achieved this (only thanks to the help on here - added a script).

Now (aagh!), they are wanting the contact details (all in the footer) to
contain form fields as some of the offices have "satelite" offices.

This is over my head in terms of Word knowledge, or lack of it.

- Can the header still be protected but not the footer
- Actually I guess I will have to get rid of the footer if there are to be
form fields?

Any suggestions as to the best way to deal with this?

Thanks very much.

There are ways to pick up information from the form itself and put it in the
footer. A StyleRef field is the easiest way; my researches had suggested
that a Ref field would not work, but apparently there are ways to make it
work. If you were trying to put the information in the header, you could try
inserting a section break at the very beginning of the document and
protecting only the second section, leaving the header of Section 1
accessible (I haven't tested this), but the information would have to be
inserted directly, not using a form field.

Perhaps a better way to go would be a programmatic approach, letting users
enter the data into a UserForm, whence it would be inserted in the document.
This is a *much* better approach if the template is for an ordinary document
(not an actual form).
