Text documents.

Hello, experts:
They other day I did a search for ".txt" and got over 900 hits of various
text documents. Some go back as far as to the time I put my machine into
service. (2001, HP 750c) There are logs and other info that I feel is no
longer needed, including info on when SP1 was installed. (I now have SP2). It
seems that these files take up a lot of disk space and I would like to remove
them. Is it safe to do this. I appreciate your reply.

Miscellaneous .txt and .log files should be retained. They often
contain the information required to uninstall a program. If you delete
the wrong ones, you'll be unable to uninstall programs you previously
installed.

How much space are they taking up as a %ge of your total HDD space? If
you want more space freeing up I would suggest the .txt files are
negligable in actual size but some of them are config files and can be
crucial.

I have 2041 .txt files total size 6041KBs on an 80Gb HDD (prolly more
only did a quick search), jeeze must get rid of them before I run out
of space eh!

Not true.

Uninstalling them via the Control Panel interface might not work, but
other methods will.
