Text boxes - created in PPT for Windows and viewd in PPT for Mac

Some of the people I work with have Macs and some, like me, have
Windows-based PCs.

Whenever I create a text box in PowerPoint for Windows, it looks fine to
other Windows users, but to my colleagues who work on Macs, the text spills
out of the text box. They have the same fonts I use.

I'm assuming that the Mac version of the fonts is a little different than
the Windows versions. But the only type of font PowerPoint allows me to embed
is TrueType, which I believe Macs will strip out automatically and replace
with another similar non-TT font.

First of all, are my assumptions correct?

Second and more importantly, can anyone suggest a solution? This is a huge
problem for me... especially if one of the people who's using a Mac is a
client!

Many thanks in advance for your help.

How have you made sure of this?

Mac versions don't strip out the embedded TT fonts, but they don't use them
either, so yes, if the fonts aren't present on the Mac, PowerPoint will
substitute a different font. On the other hand, it *might* be a TT font or it
might not.

What fonts are you using? For overall compatibility, it's best to stick with
[yawn] Arial and [yawwwwnnnnn] TimesNewRoman, which should be present on all
Windows and Mac systems.

And because of slight font rendering differences between the two platforms, it's
best not to pack the text in there too tightly. When in doubt, bump the text up
and down by a point or two to see if bad things happen. If so, make the text
container a bit bigger.

Thanks VERY much, Steve. I have used Arial, Verdana and Gil Sans and always
have the same problem. I'll try sticking with Arial, per your suggestion.

The text container auto-sizes to fit the text I've entered. How would I
manually enlarge the container without affecting the text size inside?

Thanks again!

I just checked and I've got all three fonts on the Mac here (OSXpreTigger, PPTX and
2001 but not 2004 plus other apps, so it's hard to say what font arrived on which
barge).
The text container auto-sizes to fit the text I've entered. How would I
manually enlarge the container without affecting the text size inside?

Click inside the text box then choose Format, AutoShape
Click the Text Box tab
Experiment with the Word Wrap text in Autoshape and Resize Autoshape to fit Text
options to see what works best.
Thanks again!

This is exactly my problem, but the problem exists between Macs as well. My
old iMac DV+ (Office X) diplays perfectly, my Windows laptop (XP
Professional/2003) and the office system (2003) all work fine. My iMac 20"
G5 (2004) does not.

Why?

Apple says it is a Microsoft problem.

I don't know, but since it seems to be a Mac/Mac issue rather than a
cross-platform one, you might want to post this in Public.Mac.Office.Powerpoint
also (where the Mac users hang out) to see if any of them have run into this
problem.
