Text box problems.

F

Frank Martin

I have just upgraded from Word2000 to
Word2003.

When I try to insert a text box I get a
strange "Insert your drawing here" message.

How can I go back to the way the text box
worked in the past?

Please help, Frank

On the General tab of Tools | Options, clear the check box for the item that
talks about a drawing canvas.

In Tools > Options > General, near the bottom, uncheck "Automatically
create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes".

It isn't generally understood (and Word's help makes no effort to
explain) that text boxes are shapes, in the same class as the things
you can draw with the tools from the Drawing toolbar. All the options
that affect shapes, such as this one and the options to toggle the
display and printing of drawing objects, also affect text boxes.

Thanks to all; this works OK now.
