Text box character limit?

I'm using PPT-97 SR-2 on NT4

Is there a character limit per line in a text box?

I have a text box and I have text that adds up to 268
characters (including spaces) which I have set at font
size 5pt so it will read across the entire page. The final
word is "motorways" and the text wraps after the "m"
(character 255) leaving "otorways" on the next line even
though it is nowhere near the end of the text box. It does
it at font size 6pt as well.

I could find no references to this limitation on the MS
Knowledge base.

Anyone know the answer?

Can't be sure, but if it is character 255, it seems very likely.

Hello,

Yes, there is a limit to the number of characters per line as well as total
number of characters per paragraph and per text box. The limits vary
depending on the version of PowerPoint.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
PowerPoint provide this kind of functionality (no character limits per
line, paragraph, object), don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN
WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

Trev,
Yes, the limit is 255 characters. There are several workarounds using
VBA to deal with this.

You could try a google search on this (not sure what the search
strings would be) or you could check into the Excel group since they
are well aware of this for many versions and have wrtten a number of
workarounds.
