text before numbered list or another solution?

I have a long list of questions to which I need to provide answers. I need
to be able to put a heading before each answer which is the same except for
the number at the end of the text which changes incrementally. Between
answers are obviously headings for the questions and the text of each
question. Anyone have an idea on how to automate this process? I've tried
creating a numbered list, but it doesn't want to put all of the text that I
need in the heading (a decently long preamble).

Thanks in advance.

version of Word, and how long is this "text?"

I've never tried to setup a numbered style with anything longer than,
say, "Chapter " before the number.

If all else fails, you can resort to field-based numbering (SEQ fields)
and create an AutoText in the desired style containing the text and the
field.
