test website

Hi Guys
I have just completed designing my website in FP 2003. I need to test the
website on the web server so that I can show my site to you guys for expert
comments. I do not want to officially publish it because i think it still
needs some changes. How can I do that.. if you know what i mean..
How can i get a free web space (or for nominal charges) just to test run it??

Thanks
mita

why waste time testing on a server that will in all likelyhood be a limited
due to being a freebie.

get your domain registered and choose a good host and publish it...why wait?
It's not like viewers are sitting around waiting to jump on your site :)
besides it takes weeks even months for the search engines to list you.

just do it

Just publish it. No one's going to know the site is there and accidentally
stumble over it, until you start promoting it (in the usual marketing
strategies).

Upload to a Yahoo site or whatever.....plenty around. The big search engines
these days provide email and web hosting services as well.

But of course you'll need the equivalent hosting services as your 'real'
host; if necessary, can't you open a second account with them?

Or publish it to whereever your intend to do so anyway, and place password
protection on the root folder? (usually this can be done through the host
control panel like Cpanel or whatever).

Hi Guys
I took your advise and have signed up with geocities.
I have uploaded my .dwt page on the link below. I have used DHTML menu
builder to create vertical and horizontal menu bar.
The site is not complete at all.
The problem is that the format which I selected for the menus does not
appear when I open the published page.
here is the link- http://www.geocities.com/miss_mita/
Pls advise

Many Thanks

You are off to a frustrating time using a free web host. You're gonna waste
time figuring out how to make it work in a framed free site when you could
be spending that time tweaking your web.

Your web is referencing files on your hardrive...did you create a website on
your hardrive or are you working with loose pages in a normal folder instead
of a web folder? Everytime you work on your local web are you opening the
web...Open Site or trying to work on individual loose pages?

How did you publish to Geocities? Do they offer FrontPage extensions?

Hi Rob
sorry for my lack of knowledge in publishing. I have created my website on
the hard drive and then published it on a local folder in my hard drive.
Geocities gave me an option to upload my files so what I did was just opened
my test web folder which I published locally and added the index page on this
geocities page.. I am really getting nervous as I am the only one in my
office who knows Frontpage and I have been given an opportunity to design a
website for my office but looks like everything has fallen out of place.
Guys I cant officially upload the website unless its complete but I want to
show you guys what I have done
Is there a cheap and affordable way to do it??
Please help

Thanks

Your local website should all be in one folder on your hardrive, that folder
will have extra files that FP creates when you actually create a web/site,
the folder containing all these files should have a globe on it...does it?

If your host server has FP extensions installed and working you would
Publish your web/site like this:
Open FP
File | Open Web/Site
Now your web is opened locally you should see all your files in Folder List
File | Publish Web/Site
enter your domain... http://www.whatever.com
the rest is self-evident once you get here..

If your Geocities web has FP extensions you would publish as above - except
it may be to a slightly different domain name, depending on what their
publishing instructions have told you.

hth..

Hi Rob
u are right . My entire website is all under one folder and the folder does
have a globe on it. I am pretty sure the geocities will not have server
extentions. I ll look out for another host and try to publish the site then

Thanks

But first convert that folder to a web folder...browse to open it with FP as
a web.
